old place & this, but did a poor job. he came over here & wanted me to pay him some thing I told him I gave him harnesses & blankets & hay before & I guess it would have to answer, no doubt but he needed the money. but it was not up to me to do for the down & out. Pa had always shared with every body & that was what had got us where we were now. but very few thanks one gets by helping such ones out, they are the worst kind & without any honor. before another summer Mike Williams will be on the town & we shall all have to support him. this year our poll tax supports all the needy & more whoose not so needy. I have been cooking to day instead of yesterday I made drop cakes & rhubarb pie & a loaf of brown bread this morning. I usually change Pa's clothes & do the washing but have not done so to day. it seems the hardest job of all to get Pa into clean clothes. he feels it such a task. no doubt he dreads it as much as any one does to do it for him. he is sleeping days a great deal but wakes before five in the morning. the old robin has coaxed her little ones out of the nest since morning she was trying to get them to leave all day yesterday I could see some there yesterday but stumbled over one at the back door in the morning he managed to fly into the field. a cat could get them very easily at this stage. by now they are probably in a safe place so I hope well let us hope and pray that the mother robin will look out for them now they are out in the open. Ma
