Stoughton June 6th 1933

Dear Doris

A good rain through the night wet dow [[down]] the ground that did a world of good & of which we were very much in need of. as every thing was bone dry. so this morning I planted my cosmos seeds while the soil was wet. they may be late, but the fertilizer may send them ahead a bit faster & I had planted velvet marigold seeds in front of them. so the others will come to shade them & bloom later on Ring came over to see me late in the evening I guess he was after something to fill out his garden. seedlings I had given him several times. but he stayed long enough for me to be eaten up by mosquitoes which were thicker than tophet out. My robin has just flown up into her nest. Mrs Ballentine was watching her with me to see her feeding her babies. we could see their little heads bobbing up. I hope nothing will interfere to her raising them. but there are plenty of cats around the neighborhood. I went out under the pine tree & was looking at the flowering azealia [[azaleas]] something came down & struck me with both wings & gave a screech. it was the old blue jay who had
