up or down they would have worn out long ago if I had. so you see I am saving in some ways. Alice has just called up to see if I am coming down as she says there are three interesting books waiting for me & I have not been down for a week & she asked if I were sick. Mrs. Tom Wood hailed me this morning to tell me that Mrs Frank Drake had gone to the hospital to have a very serious operation. Evelyn told her they had sent for her to come in. trouble never comes singly. they are having more than their share. Poor Evelyn is to be pitied she is a good sympathetic girl & she may be left alone I am afraid, I have just got back from Alices she is pleased with her last boarder Frank Bumreys widow. I carried her a big bunch of white lilacs. she liked them Louie broke them up. he was up on his step ladder where he could easily reach them. Mrs Ballentine & Addie are out in their yard working all day, they say their house is cold & its warmer to get into the sun. its a great day over head. I must get my supper now before its any later Ma.
