what did you think of Lenas last letter & the plan of her house. one would think there was plenty of money back of it she would live just as long if she did not have quite as much room to turn around in & less furniture. but that is her business & not mine I hope she may take comfort there. & too bad she has not the means to carry out her extravegant [[extravagant]] ideas. I have got Pa off to bed & even persuaded him to soak his feet he is afraid I think he has a little cold in his head. but nothing dangerous. he woke us both up in the night hawking & spitting, but showed no signes [[signs]] of a cold in the morning so we think he is just scart [[scared]]. she had baked beans for our dinner & to night he complained of his belly aching. & not having had any thing pass him, but he eat all the fore noon & I suppose perhaps he feels full of gas. they filled me full when I ate them at night, but this noon I digested them without any trouble. so I guess he might have taken a little cold when he swept off the front porch. his hands have been purple for some time, but we try to take care of him & do as far as he will let us. I was abed when he grabbed the broom & swept the front portico after she came in from sweeping out the sleeping porch. he met me at the foot of the stairs & told me he was all out of breath from sweeping the snow off the porch.
