PS I found my white chrysanthemum to day with one little blossom struggting to live out in the garden. I thought it was dead. Ma.

Dear Doris

The day is cold & raw although the sun has shined out of the clouds since noon but a NW wind prevails. Jim is to take my blood test tomorrow. I have been fed up pretty well lately & it may run high. my appetite is very good & I am hungry for every meal. I had corn chowder seasoned with salt pork it was good & brown betty with sauce. (bread crumbs with a layer of apples, cinneman [[cinnamon]] sugar & butter between the layers till the dish is full) she soaks the bread & bakes it in a dish of water slow. the sauce is an addition as I called for it she having omitted it the day before. I used to make it, but had not since I was sick. she does not have much cooked in the house at a time, but manages to keep Pa's place at the table well filled with food every time he comes down so he wont dip into our messes. & when she makes cookies or little cakes she hides them, but sees to it to give him as much as we have. otherwise he would lug it off in no time. he comes down stairs in the night & travels around at all hours of the night. if he dont fall down & break his neck he
