&c I am informed by Postmaster J B. McMurry [[McMurray]] here, that when he was Mayor of this town last year an officer and detachment U.S. troops left him, about the markets and some other gov property which he delivered to his successor in office where they are until Sept. He reported it to the U.S. Solicitor at Salem several weeks ago, but no action has been taken yet and this property remains in charge of the town authorities. It think it to be my duty to report these facts,. though they are known to the proper authorities to take charge of said property.

Sir
I have the honor to report, that colored people established a daily school in Caswell Co. on the land of a Mrs. Parteet, about 10 miles from Yanceyville. They have rented a lot of said Mrs. Parteet for 5 years, for $5.00 a year and build a house on it for this school at an expense of about $30.00. They have 26 pupils for the start and collect 25 cents a month from each pupil. They elected a colored man, Anton Simons as Teacher [[crossed out]]as[[/crossed out]] but have no more means to support him than this collection, and

apply for some aid. This school was established by Simon Williamson, Henry Turner, Thomas Gun, Freedmen and some others. All from that neighborhood.
