34 July 11 1867 M. A. W. Bolenius Report no arrests, and no outrages. Lt. C. Court of Caswell tried two cases of battery on complaint of freedmen and payed the same fines as usually for whites. July 12 1867 the same In March Court Freedman Andy Brannick of Alamance Co made a complaint that his wife had been outraged and justice denied him. Enclosed please find minutes of an investigation an affidavit of Lisa Brannick and a letter of Benj. Marten J A addresed to me on requisition to inform me of the proceedings before him. It appears from this investigation, that said Lisa Brannick states, that an attempt of rape was committed on her, and that the persecution of their outrage was to be hushed by aid of said magistrate. I had referred these papers to the Solicitor of the Ky. Court, who summoned the pltff and witness to appear at Graham on May 20 in order to bring it before said Court at that time, [[?]] pltff failed to appear & the papers were returned to me. I have since tried to find out the reason of the nonappearance of this Elia Brannick, who lives now in G. Co.
