Bolenius Aug 21. 1867 In compl with your order of June 29th I have the honor to forward the same to report, that I have applied to the C. Attorney and Sheriff of Caswell Co. and a freedman Wilson Cary at Yville for information, and after having received the enclosed answers, that said Julia Ware may be taken before a magistrate for proper action. It appears [[from the]] enclosed letters, that no action was taken in time by the civil authorities because no party applied to them and gave sufficient evidence, and that said Julia Ware is now with a Mr Van Womock in Pittsylavania Co. According to the law no man is disfranchised unless he is properly convicted for felony. As Ch. Mannick never was indicted less convicted for any felony by any Court I request you to reassume his claim and register him as voter according to law, if he is not disfranchised for any other reason. Aug 26/67 Enclosed please find my monthly returns of rations issued to dest whites & fdmens. I think there no occasion for issuing rations at the present time as the Co. will now be able to take charge of the few people that are in want. Aug 26/67 I have the honor to report that business at this office was chiefly in giving advice & assistance to the fdmen. in collecting their dues. The condition of them is generaly satisfactory. The work of registration is just going on & will be finished this week for the first round. From indications it seems that all men entitled to vote will register (whites and blacks)
