December 14, 1931.

My dear Friend:

This letter is personal and urgent.

On October 4, 1931, when Federation began its campaign, we were short $2,230,000. Since it costs Federation $11 a minute to support its ninety-one institutions, this meant that we had to sell 203,000 support minutes.

We have tried hard to accomplish this task and have almost succeeded. But two weeks before the end of the year we still have 45,672 minutes unsold.

The men and women who are responsible for Federation's money-raising have literally exhausted themselves. It is impossible for them to do more.

Therefore I am asking your personally to help.

Please sell the enclosed minutes at $11 each. Each slip represents one actual minute still unprovided for.

I know I do not appeal to you in vain not to return the minute book with any minutes unsold. With all the other drives succeeding, the Jews of New York dare not fail.

Faithfully yours,
JOSEPH M. PROSKAUER,
President

P.S. If you can sell more minutes to your friends and acquaintances than those enclosed, let me know and I will see that the additional number you request is sent you. The need is great; the time is short.
