Dear Dr. Friedlander:

I am taking the liberty of sending you herein the reproduction of a painting, which, according to the tradition in the family of the owner, was attributed by you a great many years ago to Hans von Kulmbach, and came originally from Castle Schlossheim.

This painting has been for over twenty-five years in one of the old New York collections. It has just been turned over to me for sale, as I find it perfectly enchanting and in a very remarkable state of preservation.

However, I explained to the owner that before proceeding it would be necessary to have your confirmation of the authorship, and I am wondering whether by the same token you could tell me anything further about Castle Schlossheim, where there was also a very important collection but I have no idea whose property it was.

I shall make no further comments as regards this painting about which you realize I am most anxious to receive your opinion.

I do hope you are well and that you received long ago the few little tidbits I took much pleasure in sending on to you for they were shipped around October 8th.

Please do not bother to mention this unless you should not have received them in which case I would like to be posted.

Looking forward to hearing from you and thanking you in advance for your kind answer and with warm personal regards,

Sincerely yours,
Dr. Max J. Friedlander
