Dear Dr. Friedlander:

How extremely kind of you to have so very promptly answered my letter.

I am most interested, you will no doubt realize, with your comments and am glad you simplified the problem by reducing to two at least the number of portraits.

If neither one nor the other is by Durer the number of them becomes of very little moment.

I always feel very embarrassed to write to you with requests with no possibility of returning these favors. Are there not some catalogues and photographs or perhaps a book or books published which you would care for.

I would be so very happy if you expressed such a desire.

With renewed thanks and with personal warm regards,

I remain,

Yours very sincerely,

(Germain Seligman)
