Dear Dr. Friedlander:

I am glad to have an opportunity to write this, as it always gives me such pleasure to receive letters from you. We on this side of the ocean, are deprived of the short visits the Europeans may have from you.

I am taking the liberty of sending you herein, the photograph of a painting (on panel which has been given us for sale, and which has puzzled several of the art critics whom I have showed it to - they seem to have hesitated between a Rheinish and a Dutch artist.

Personally, I think it is Rheinish. On the other hand, the treatment of the faces - particularly the eyes and the foreheads - show characteristics which, should one know the artist, must help considerably in identifying him, as well as the little walled city on the right.

This painting on panel, is in a remarkably good state of preservation, and measures 28-3/4" high by 19-/4" wide.

Anything you will be able to tell me about it will be greatly appreciated.

Hoping that you are enjoying good health and with my best wishes for a pleasant Christmas and Happy New Year, I am,

With kindest regards,
Yours very sincerely,

(Germain Seligmann)
