and it is a pity to have hundreds of children roaming the streets learning anything but good - and all for the want of free schools. I want to have schools opened for all the children who can attend before I leave this field in January. I came out much against the wishes of my parents and friends, refusing an excellent opening for business in my own home because I felt that my services would be more important here. But the feeble health of my parents and my purpose of entering upon a theological course will compel me (at the earliest moment I can do so with a due regard to the needs of this most interesting field of labor) I resign my commission. 
I shall try to employ some native teachers with a portion of the fund for schools, using them as assistants.
