Early in the first of the year I will be able to report to you what the colored people of this place will pledge themselves to pay me as their Teacher  I think that I may say that it will be at least $30- per month  I shall try and stimulate them to raise more if I can  We are now preparing for a Christmas exercise which I trust will have a good effect in that way  There are many who have already spoken to me relative to sending their children to the School when I open it in January and I am led to believe that I will have quite an increase of scholars  The parents of those that have been attending my School are much pleased with me and in fact many of the White people express a surprise and have solicited me to admit their children into my School
