and Rev. C. W. Buckley superintendent of Education in Alabama assumes the payment of the rent & authorizes me to employ a teacher if Dr Walden does not send one immediately. A few days ago a citizen of Grantville wrote me earnestly requesting me to go there and organize a school, assuring me that many respectable citizens favor it. I am told that at least 100 scholars may be obtained immediately. A house and lot are offered me for $300. I will buy and enlarge the building for church and school - the building & lot I will have deeded to colored trustees, as here, it will cost several hundred dollars to build one addition to the house. Please assist me by paying rents - as far as you can. I go up on next Sunday & will stay on Monday to purchase the lot & organize the school. If the funds of Methodist F A Sec'y will not authorize the employment of a teacher can you employ one for that place? If so I will recommend one every way qualified & in full sympathy with our cause.

In this place (La G.) I have built a church at a cost (including lot) of $2800. The M E Church paid about $1444- the colored people have over $800 & they owe over $400. Can you not allow them say $25 per month rent as the Church is used for school? They will be able by this means to pay the debt during this year.
