Dear Sir.
Your circular of the 25. ult. was received yesterday. I would be glad to know what compensation, if any, will be allowed for the performances of the duties it sender to impose upon agents, and how and where, it will be paid -
To have efficiency in offices, a salary adequate to the services rendered should be paid. It is no little trouble to collect statistics and report monthly, the conditions of school in the district, the department, I think, cannot expect it as a gratuity.
The number of schools, in my district, is not large, but may be increased during the year -
Will be glad to hear from you on the subject

Very Respectfully
James M Gray
