Mr G L Eberhart

Dear Sir

Some of the leading Freedmen of this place and neighborhood, have purchased a lot in this place for the purpose of erecting a building, to be used as a school house & church, they propose to build one about 20 by 60 feet, and tell me that they can get all the framing except the rafter. They wish me to ascertain if they can get an appropriation from the Government.
The education of the freed children have been very much neglected, from the fact that they have not had the means, neither have they now. They all appear quite anxious to have their children get an education, and if the Government would appropriate about Three Hundred Dollars - Thin could be a school started here, that would be of great benefit to them. If will take that amount to purchase
