G L E, [[?]],

Dear Friend

I have been very busy & have neglected to write you although there are some things importance that ought to be attended to. I never saw teachers endure so much as the teachers of the (Col) Schools here. The house is so open, yet the coldest weather that we have they shiver & work on God bless them. Rev J. H. Chalfant has just been here & suggests that you will help us out by allowing us about $25 per rent for the house to be spent by us in fixing up - If you will please send us a check immediately - say for $100, & I'll try to have them comfortable in a few days. The poor children hack & cough distressingly - but still the [[they]] go so anxious are they to learn. Our Freedman Aid Soc- pays the little salery & the (Col) people pay the board of the teachers. And they are doing well under the circumstances. The chuch may be used as a school house for some time to come, But I hope that according to your suggestion that after awhile we will get a good school house I know you will do the best you can for us - I ll be glad for you to give
