The more thoughtful and better class have openly expressed their disapprobation of the burning of the house, and have assured me they would aid me in finding out those who did it.

I have put the question direct to many if they would tolerate a school, and all have said they would. But a colored woman called on me last night and told me she heard one of the school teachers and two of the [[strikethrough]] teachers [[/strikethrough]] scholars here, say they would burn a house down, (& my preachers house too) if we erected one.

I recommend that you give my preacher here, * a man of high moral worth and standing, the position in this district, that the Caldwells have in theirs. And I shall under obligation for any suggestions that will lead to the erection of
