I went to Cave Spring in this county last Saturday.  I was received, and treated badly by some of the whites, while I regret to say, others acted very badly.  I was much annoyed and abused by one man all the time of my stay, and on Sunday was much disturbed by him during our religious exercises.  So much so, that I fear but little good was done.

The Freedmen however, were well pleased, and insisted on my returning again.  When they would be better prepared to act. 

The fact is the church in this county is throwing every obsticle in the way of our operating that they possibly can.  But we are not to be driven from the field, and they might just as well give it up at once.

I think Thompson will need an assistant for he has already more than one man can attend to proffitably.  His school seems to be prosperous, and under good discipline.
