not seized by the Bureau and not subject to seizure. immediately East of and adjoining this plantation is the plantation of Mrs. Cobert abandoned & seized by the Bureau. this plantation is held with a view to making it a farm for the use of those remaining in the colony during next year. this plantation is however destitute of Fencing and has not timber sufficient to fence it. I presume the colony will consume most of the timber this winter for fuel.

About one half of the people live in the colony proper occupying cabbins built by the Bureau. the remainder occupy houses in the Village of Washington. those houses were seized by the Bureau are old and out of repair yet for want of lumber we are compelled to occupy them. About 2 mos since by request of Maj Geo D. Reynolds A.A.C.B.F., I made an estimate of the amt of lumber necessary to build comfortable quarters for the people. the request was forwarded but was not approved by the A.C. of A. Bureau I have had boards made from timber cut on the County Poor house farm, and used them to repair the houses so far as they would go. I was in want of at least 20,000 feet of Lumber to make comfortable quarters for the people.
