have expressed their desire to have schools, but say they cannot procure teachers.  I am confident there might be several schools started here if there were only teachers.  If there were two or three colored persons who had a good moral character & compitent [[competent]] to teach the rudiments of the english language they might start schools that would remunerate them well. & there be the means of confering a great blessing upon the colored people of this county.
