Mary Jane Rule (Colored) complains that her husband treats her very cruelly — by investigation it is proven that the husband has been cruel. Case referred to Dr. Burnell the employer who assured me he would report the next offence that proper steps might be taken to punish him —

10th  Aug 17th 1867
Wilson Lee (Col'd) complains that in /66 he worked for a Mr. W.A.P. Hendrick that he had failed to get a proper settlement— investigation proved that Mr. Hendrick paid Wilson Lee $98 about the 1st of Jan 1867 in full payment for services — Wilson Lee reprimanded for false report —

11th  Aug 19th 1867
Maria West (Colored) complains that she had been discharged from the plantation of Mrs. Mary A. Swazy without settlement — statement taken and referred to Mrs. Swazy — investigation proved that statement was correct Maria had been insolent and was discharged — Mrs. Swazy gave Maria security for her share of the crop — when gathered.
