12  Aug 21st 1867
Nathaniel Lee (colored) complains that his son had been beaten by an Irishman on the plantation of his employer Mr James Spires - statement taken and referred to Mr James Spires who reported at office and explained that he was absent at the time  he had reproved the Irishman for his conduct and would see that the practice was not kept up --

13  Aug 26th 1867 
Mary Jane Jackson (Colored)complains that she was cruelly beaten by a Mr Newsome, on going to his place by direction of agent Bu Sub Dist - Yazoo to procure clothing and so forth.

14th  Lewis Jones (Colored) complains that a pistol was taken from him by Justice B.W. King in April 1867 - and he required to pay $5. for carrying it, Referred to Justice B.W. King and statement requested -not heard from

1870 US CENSUS - James Spiars, and James Spears; but no James Spires. But it is close. James Spear, age 35, owns his farm; James Spiars, age 34, own his farm. Either could be this employer. Crutcher is correct.
