Sub-Dist. of Sardis Miss.
Sardis Miss. Aug. 31st 1867.

Sir.
In compliance with Par. I Cir. No. 10. c. s. Office Asst. Comr. State of Miss. I have the honor to make the following report of complaints and outrages investigated by me during the month of August /67 to wit:

[] Complaint No 1. []

John Williams cold. complained that John P. Bobo (white.) for whom he was working this year, committed an assault with intent to kill upon him Aug. 5th/67. Williams complained to a Justice of the Peace here at Sardis, a warrant was issued but as there was no Constable here, the writ was not served. Williams then came to me and requested me to investigate the complaint, which I did, and the charge against Bobo was substantiated by the testimony of two other witnesses. I telegraphed to Hd. Qrs. Vicksburg, and received answer to hold Bobo till guard arrived and send him for trial to Vicksburg, before the guard did arrive Bobo escaped with, or by the assistance of a citizen named M. A. Myers whom I sent under guard to C.O. U.S. Forces Granada Miss. for safe keeping till I could receive further instructions from Hd. Qrs. Vicksburg, immediately after receipt of instructions, I sent Telegram to C.O. U.S. Forces Grenada to release Myers which was done, and on return of Myers here, I put him under five hundred Dollars Bond to appear at the next term of the U.S. Dist.
