Court at Oxford Miss. although the evidence against Myers might not warrant his trial by Military Commission. I did not under instructions received from the Asst. Coms. feel myself at liberty to release Myers entirely unless ordered to do so by the Genl. Comdg. if such is desired, I beg to be informed in the matter. I beg leave to state if Myers were to go entirely free it would be very difficult for me hereafter to arrest or hold in arrest any Citizen whom I might be compelled to arrest unless a military guard were immediately at hand. I firmly believe that the act of Myers was thrown out by some of the Citizens as a feeler to ascertain what power will be brought to bear in cases of this character against them. I hope and pray that the Asst. Comis. will sanction my action in the case. Boto is still at large but his whereabouts I cannot ascertain. Should I be to recapture him, I shall report immediately for instructions.

[] Complaint No. 2. []
Antoinette Alexander (freed woman) complained that Elijah Wilburn (white) had apprenticed to him my the Civil Courts a daughter of Antoinette's (aged fifteen years) without her previous consent, she further stated to me, when I informed her to recover her child by Writ of Habeas Corpus that she had not the means to apply to Civil Authorities. I investigated her claims, and ascertain beyond a doubt her legal rights to the child, and I order Mr. Wilburn to deliver the child into the custody of the Mother, which was promptly done by Mr. Wilburn.
