On reply to communication from your office under date June 3rd 1867 I have the honor to state that I submitted the communication to the Board of Police for this Comdg requesting information therein and received the following reply.
"Charleston Miss Aug 19th 1867

Sir
The circular letter of Capt Preston A.AAG. of June 3rd last by direction of Gen Gillem addressed to the Board of Registration of this County referred by you to me for information has [[re'c?]] due consideration from me and the other members of the Board of Police of this County and I have the honor to report as requested that there are sixteen white families consisting of fifty six persons, widows and children, and about thirty negroes consisting principally of old men and women who are in destitution. There is no data within my reach by which I can inform you of the aggregate amount of crop produced last year. There was more cotton raised than the other products together.
