In compliance with "Circular Letter" dated Bureau of Refugees Freedmen and Abandoned Land Office Asst. Comr. for the State of Miss. Vicksburg Miss July 25th 1867, I have the honor to submit the following report of operations of this Office on the subjects required for the Month of August 1867.
I  Probable number of freed people in this Sub Dist about Two thousand (2,000)
II  Their condition and how paid for service: -Many are industrious and frugal, while others are inexcusably idle and slothful, some of the latter manage to exist by fishing hunting &c: Those who labor here are usually satisfactorily paid; although this Office has been resorted to in a few instances by persons who were unable to obtain satisfaction either from employers or the Civil Authorities.
III  Contracts:-Few are for a longer period than
