Complains that Str. H R Shreve owes him a bal. [[balance]] for labor while she was discharging last trip at this Port. I wrote the Clerk of Boat & the reply was that he had paid the Boy according to the ticket he had. The same as he paid all the labors. The Boy returned & has told different stories first he only claimed seventy five acts. I have no doubt the clerk paid him what was right. Case dismissed.

Transcription Notes:
Str. H R Shreve - believe Str. is for Steamer or Steamboat. He calls it a "she" - "...labor while she (boat?) was discharging at this Port".Says he wrote to the clerk of the Boat. So they are talking about a boat. Henry Shreve played a pivotal role in the development of steamboats. He operated out of New Orleans, Louisiana with his steamboats in the 1800's. ** Bureau of Refugees, Freedmen & Abandoned Lands
