run if you do Ill Shoot you & put his hand behind him. at this time his friend was holding the mule by the Bridal [[Bridle]] & the Policeman fired his pistol.  Davis still on his mule after the shot Davis jumped off his mule & ran behind a Blacksmiths Shop.  The Policeman caught & arrested him & put him in the Work House.  The Policeman went for a Surgeon & Dr. Henry came & found that Davis was shot about the shoulder
John Maher Policeman on Oath States that Davis herein mentioned was on a mule & taking up the whole sidewalk.  I steped [[stepped]] up to him and told him to get off the walk.  he made no reply & did not take any notice me I then told him he was my prisoner & ordered him off the mule.  he made no answer. I then walked round the mule & got the man by the arm & his shirt tore.  he said let me go & Ill get down. I let go of him & he commenced bucking his mule off the walk.  I then seized the mule by the Bitts & told him if he did not get down I would pull him down.  he then commenced sawing the Bitts & backed his mule to the middle of the street  then my hold broke & Davis turned his mule in the direction of Washington St. & commenced using his hands & feet to hurry the mule along
