States in 1865 he went to haul Cotton out at Jackson & when he left here he left a Cow with Milton Sal. Col" to keep till he returned in the mean time Sal. got in Jail & sold the Cow to some Col. man to get out of Jail. this Col. man sold the Cow to Mrs. Cushman. Young wants advice about getting his Cow. I have advised him to drop the Case. He cant recover her. Sal. has left the Country. Young say she will have his Cow if it costs him three Bales of Cotton

States he lives on Davis Bend at Joe [[strikethrough]] Bend [[//strikethrough]] Place on Sand Scased by Ben Montgomery Col. Sgt. for Joe Davis on last Thursday the 15th inst. he came to Vicksburg on Str. Grey Eagle to buy Rations did so & returned on the same Boat on Saturday the 17th inst as the Boat reached the Ldg. at Davis Bend. I was sitting on the Rail of the Boiler & c/c talking with Mr. Shife a white man after seeing my freight go ashore I slurted down % while on the Gang plank near the shore I met one of the deck hands & without a word from either of us he punched with a Capston Bar
