Sir:

I have the honor to transmit herewith monthly report of the condition of the Freedmen in the Sub district of Greenville for the month of August 1867.

[]Number of freedpeople in the district[]There are about twenty thousand freed people in this Sub district.

[]Their condition[] Their condition is generally as good as could be expected and those of them who work for regular wages are well paid and those who work for a portion of the crop generally get as much as they are entitled to.

[]Nature of the Contracts []The most of the contracts for the present year are made for a part of the crop and where the crops are very short they will of course have very little money at the end of the year.

[]Sick & suffering []I know of none at present who are sick, old and infirm who are suffering from want.
