2nd. Amount of Crops of 1866 &c. &c.

We are unable to gather even an approxamation [[approximation]] of the amount of crops having no data to work on.  They however certainly fall short four -fifths 4/5 of that of former years.  In other words not more than one fifth 1/5 was raised of Cotton, Corn, potatoes or other products, the cause of this failure was attributable to several circumstances, viz. first the overflow, followed by heavy and continued rains preventing planting, and in the higher lands not subject to overflow the continued wet weather early in the season followed by the other extreme of excessively hot dry weather with insufficient labor and finally the cotton worm.

3rd. Comparative extent of Land in cultivation this year &c.  There is a much greater extent of Land put under cultivation this year than last the amount of Corn certainly quite doubles if not threbles that of the year before.  Labor likewise is more efficient now, owing to a different arrangement made with the freedman who generally now works on shares.
