To the Board of Registration,
County of Adams Miss,
GENTLEMEN,
I am directed by Brevet Major General Alvan C. Gillem, Commanding Sub District of Mississippi, and Assistant Commissioner, Bureau Refugees, Freedmen and Abandoned Lands, State of Mississippi, to request you to give him such information as may be in your possession on the following points:
The extent of destitution in your county; in what class it principally exists; the amount and kind of crops produced in 1866; if a failure, to what cause is such a failure to be attributed; comparative extent of land in cultivation this year; proportion of cotton to other products of corn, wheat, oats and other necessaries of life; what attention is given to raising cattle and hogs. 
The above information is desired with a view to the amelioration of the condition of the inhabitants irrespective of color.
