In general the whites, are disposed, to be kind to them, and seet they have justice: there are a few exceptions to this rule-
Complaints and outrages.
I have had 37 complaints, by freedmen 32 of which I settled agreeable to both parties without recomse to law, the remaining 5 were complaints, for assault, and battery by white men, and tried by due course of law, and the parties committing the crimes were fined and other-wise punished according to the laws of the State.
