men, I therefore appointed a deputy to take charge of the crop and Freedmen, and gather and prepare the crop for market, so that the Freedmen may get their just dues. I had to sell about 5000 lbs of seed cotton to procure the necessary provisions for the Freedmen to keep them and their families from starving or struggling from the premises and the crop in search of food and prevent the crop from being totally lost. I hope the assistant Comr. State of Miss. will approve of the actions taken by me as it will in my opinion be beneficial to all parties interested.
