of the freedom employed on the premises. And the said party of the second part agrees to and with the said A.B. that he will be industrious and diligent and that he will obey promptly, dutifully, and respectfully all orders and directions of the said A.B. or his agent, about the said plantation affairs, and that he will take good care of the team of mules or horses and of all farming implements or other property entrusted to his care by the said A.B. or his agent, and account for any improper losses and abuse of the same, and that he will cultivate 12 acres in cotton and 5 in corn, which is to be furnished by the said A.B. for the year /86. And he further agrees that he will give the said A.B. the refusal of his portion of the crop at the market price that it bears in the neighborhood when ready for market. But it is further stipulated and agreed by the parties that if freedmen are by law allowed to rent and cultivate lands on their own account between this and the let day of January next, then this contract is to be void, otherwise to remain in full force and virtue.
