trials for petty offences, to Starkville where they claim that the Bureau Agent will see that they have a fair trial. If the military powers surrounding were removed, treason would want no better engines to effect its purposes than some of the magistrates courts of the kind that we have in this section. In cases when nothing is more palpable than the guilt of the party, if he be a white person it is most generally managed to delay the trials and in the mean time secure a compromise between the defendant and the injured party, upon the simple announcement of which the case is dismissed, all done according to Law.
