gained.  Any plane passing another plane must keep at least 150 ft. to the right, or 50 ft. above the plane being overtaken.
  (2) All pylon turns must be made to the left and outside the pylon.
  (3) A plane overtaken must hold its altitude and a true course in order that it may not in any way impeded or interfere with a faster, overtaking ship.
  (4) A plane overtaking a slower plane shall never attempt to pass between that plane and pylon.
  (5) After crossing the finish line, all planes shall continue on their course until they have attained an altitude of 1,00 ft. then they may turn and return to the airport and land in that part of the field assigned for landing and in so doing, shall not cross the course of the finish line.
  (6) Pilots shall pass all turning points in plain view of the observing officials, stationed at each turning point and at an altitude of not over 500 ft.
  FOULING MARK--Any competitor who has failed to turn a pylon properly may validly continue on the circuit provided he makes a complete turn of the said pylon and then continues his course in the proper direction, otherwise he is automatically disqualified from that event.
E--FINISH OF THE RACE
  (1) The finish of all Closed Course Events will be made by the passing over the finish line in front of and at right angles to the grandstand, after completing the required number of labs allowed in the Closed Course or other prescribed course.
F--WINNER OF THE RACE
  (2) The winner of first place, in any event, where speed is the determining factor, shall be the pilot who has completed a full course in the shortest elapsed time, and of second place, the second best time, etc., provided the pilot is not disqualified.
  The Contest Committee reserves the right to interpret these Rules and Regulations and make any changes they deem necessary.


The Bendix Trophy Race---Transcontinental Speed Dash

Total Purse $15,000.00 and Vincent Bendix Trophy
Note: An additional prize of $2,500.00 will be awarded to the pilot who proceeds on to New York and breaks the present transcontinental speed record in the shortest elapsed time.

  (1) The BENDIX TROPHY RACE will start from United Airport, Burbank, California, and offers free-for-all competition for all types of airplanes, effecting either non-stop flight, or refuel landings, at the pilots option. The shortest elapsed time from starting point to the finish at Cleveland Municipal Airport will be the method of declaring the winner.
  (2) The date and time of start will be determined by the Contest Committee, in order that the planes may arrive at Cleveland Municipal Airport on or before 6 p.m. Eastern time the same day, in order to be eligible.
  (3) If a pilot wishes to proceed on to New York in an attempt to break the present transcontinental speed record, he or she may do so by crossing the finish line at al altitude of approximately 50 feet between the home pylon and the grandstand at the Cleveland Municipal Airport and fly on to New York. Floyd Bennett Field has been designated for the finish in New York.

CORD CUP RACE      
Transcontinental Sweepstakes Handicap Air Derby
For Men and Women Pilots
Total Purse $10,000 and 2 Auburn Custom Speedsters

  (1) For all C. or N. C. Department of Commerce Licensed aircraft, of any cubic inch displacement.
  (2) The CORD CUP RACE will be run in two Wings--one Wing to be designated as the "Eastern Wing," and the other as the "Western Wing." The Eastern Wing will start from Washington, D.C. and the Western Wing from Mines Feld Inglewood, Cal., on the afternoon of Sunday, August 21, 1932. The two wings will progress through a series of official control cities and will merge at Bartlesville, Oklahoma from where the two wings will proceed to Cleveland as one Race, finishing on Inaugural Day, or "DERBY DAY" of the 1932 National Air Races.
  (3) The National Sweepstakes winner, at the finish of the race in Cleveland, will be that pilot in either wing who has earned the greatest number of points as explained in "Method of determining the Sweepstakes Winner."
  (4) The Junior Sweepstakes Award will go to the leader of the wing not represented by the National Sweepstakes Winner.
  (5) Awards to be made as follows:
