                  Total Purse $400.00
  (1) Open to all cabin and open type airplanes, carrying Department of Commerce Commercial License, powered with an engine of not more than 510 cubic inch piston displacement.
  (2) All entries will be handicapped by a Handicap Committee and the announced handicap will be absorbed at the start of the race, i.e.; the slowest ship will start first, and the other ships will be flagged off in the order of their handicap.
  (3) Six laps of a three and one-half mile course.
  (4) Prize Money--first prize--45% $180.00 second prize--25% $100.00; third prize--15% $60.00; fourth prize--10% $40.00; fifth prize--5% $20.00.

                 Men and Women Pilots 
  For C. or N.C. Department of Commerce Licensed Pilots
                  Total Purse $500.00

  (1) Open to cabin and open type airplanes of any displacement, carrying Department of Commerce Commercial License, with an advertised  top speed of not to exceed 100 miles per hour. 
  (2) Six laps of a three and one-half mile course.

  (1) Open to cabin and open type airplanes of any displacement, carrying Department of Commerce Commercial License, with an advertised top speed not to exceed 125  miles per hour.
  (2) Six laps of a three and one-half mile course.

  (1) Open to cabin and open type airplanes of any displacement, carrying Department of Commerce Commercial License, with an advertised top speed not to exceed 140 miles per hour.

  (1) open to all types of airplanes, equipped with OX-5 or OXX-6 motors, carrying Department of Commerce Commercial License.
  (2) Six laps of a three and one-half mile course.

         Detroit News Air Transport Trophy Race

                    Event No. 14
SPEED AND EFFICIENCY CONTEST FOR MANUFACTURERS OF CABIN AIRPLANES 
                 Men and Women Pilots
              Detroit News Trophy Plaques 
  (1) Single and multi-motored craft--Multi-motored planes must maintain an altitude of 5,000 ft, with the most effective motor dead.
  (2) Formula--Each airplane entered in this contest shall be capable of a speed in excess of 80 miles per hour with a full contest load. No airplane entered in this contest shall be capable of a speed in excess of 80 miles per hour with a full contest load. No airplane shall be eligible to compete unless a Department of Commerce Commercial license shall have been issued by the Department of Commerce of the United States for that particular airplane not later than June 29, 1932.
  (3) A cabin airplane is one that provides accommodations for passengers, including the following--comfortable chairs for all passengers, floor covering, all exterior cabin windows of glass, cabin heating and ventilating system suitable exhaust manifolds and engine starters. 
  (4) Under no circumstances shall the contest load be less than or exceed the maximum useful load permitted by the Department of Commerce under the approved type certificate awarded the ship. The Department of Commerce useful load mentioned above shall be understood to be equal to the D. of C. gross weight minus the Department of Commerce weight empty. This contest load will include the weight of the pilot and weight of the fuel with tanks full. Tools, spare parts, cockpit covers and night flying equipment (loose) may be counted as Contest Load Ballast will be used in place of passengers.
  (5) For the purpose of stick and unstick tests, the contest load will consist of ballast only, in addition to full tanks of fuel and in sufficient quantity to bring the contest load of the ship to the maximum useful load permitted by the Department of Commerce.
  (6) The pitch of the propeller or propellers used in any ship must be kept constant throughout the contest unless adjustable from cockpit or automatic.
