National Air Race Speed Classics THE BENDIX TROPHY RACE Transcontinental Speed Dash Free-for-All-- Men and Women Pilots Total Purse--$10,000 and Vincent Bendix Trophy NOTE: $9000 will be awarded to the winners of the first five places on a division of prize money. $1,000 will be awarded to the winner of this event if he establishes a new East-West Transcontinental record. (1) The Bendix Trophy Race will start from Floyd Bennett Airport, Ne York, and offers free-for-all competition for all types of airplanes, effecting either non-stop flight or refuel landings, at the pilot's option. The shortest elapsed time from the starting point to the finish at Los Angeles Municipal Airport will be the method of declaring the winner. (2) The date and time of start will be determined by the Contest Committee, in order that the planes may arrive at Los Angeles County Municipal Airport on or before 6 P.M., Pacific Coast time, the same day in order to be eligible. (3) Weather permitting, the start will be made so as to bring the planes in on the opening day of the 1933 National Air Races, July 1st. CHARLES E. THOMPSON TROPHY RACE Event No. 18 International Free-for-All-- Men and Women Pilots Total Purse--$7,500.00 and Charles E. Thompson Trophy (1) Open to any type of airplane equipped with any type of motor or motors. (2) Qualifying speed--225 miles per hour. Contestants must compete and qualify in straightaway speed dash event No. 13 in order to be eligible for this event. (3) Distance-- 200 miles over a ten-mile course. AEROL TROPHY RACE Event No. 9 International Free-for-All--Women Pilots Only Total Purse--$3000.00 and Aerol Trophy (1) Open to any type of airplane powered with any type of engine or engines. (2) Entrants must have had 150 hours in order to be eligible to compete. (3) Qualifying speed--175 miles per hour. Contestants must compete and qualify in straightaway speed dashes in order to be eligible for this event. SHELL SPEED DASHES SHEEL SPEED DASH NO. 1 World's Record Three-Kilometer Straight-Away Land Plane Speed Dash for Events Nos. 4, 7, 12, and 17- 550 Cubic Inch or Less $1,000.00 in Cash Award, Trophy and Plaques (1) Qualifying speed-175 miles per hour. (2) Contestants must compete and qualify in this Speed Dash in order to race in Events Nos. 3, 7, 12 and 17. (3) Each ship must be flown twice in each direction over a three-kilometer course. SHELL SPEED DASH NO.2 World's Record Three-Kilometer Straight-Away Land Plane Speed Dash for Women Pilots Only Qualifying Speed Dash for Event No. 9-Women's Free-for-All Race $1,500.00 in Cash Award, Trophy and Plaques (1) Qualifying speed-175 miles per hour (2) Contestants must compete and qualify in this Speed Dash in order to race in Event No. 9-Women's Free-for-All. (3) Each ship must be flown twice in each direction over a three-kilometer course. SHELL SPEED DASH NO.3 World's Record Three-Kilometer Straight-Away Land Plane Speed Dash for Men Pilots Only Qualifying Speed Dash for Events Nos. 8, 14, 18-Thompson Trophy Race (1) Qualifying speed-225 miles per hour. (2) Contestants in Events Nos. 8, 14, and 18-Thompson Trophy must compete and qualify in this Speed Dash in order to enter this event. (3) Each ship must be flown twice in each direction over a three-kilometer course. THE CLIFFORD W. HENDERSON TROPHY MERIT AWARD-Championship Air Race Pilot Trophy to be awarded to the pilot who has the greatest number of Points of Award, for winning or placing in the competitive racing events at the 1933 National Air Races.
