General Rules and Regulations Covering All Events

A- Plane Eligibility

(1) All airplanes with any type of Department of Commerce license shall be eligible to enter all events.

(2) Foreign airplanes from foreign countries are eligible to enter any event provided they have been registered or licensed by their respective governments, and meet the proper license requirements as set forth by the Department of Commerce.

(3) Any type of engine, with out without supercharger, may be used, subject to approval of the Contest Committee and provided the aircraft entered is eligible for the type of license displayed.

(4) License cards must be prominently displayed in all aircraft entered in any event in order to be eligible to start in any event for which it is entered.

(5) Qualifying Speed Dashes will be held and contestants must complete and qualify in these Speed Dashes in order to be eligible for the events covering these Speed Dashes as follows:

(a) Motors with 200 cubic inch displacement or less entered in the Closed Course Events must make a qualifying speed of 100 miles per hour.

(b) Motors with 375 cubic inch displacement or less entered in the Closed Course Events must make a qualifying speed of 150 miles per hour.

(c) Motors with 550 cubic inch displacement or less entered in the Closed Course Events must make a qualifying speed of 175 miles per hour.

(d) Motors with 1000 cubic inch displacement or less entered in the Closed Course Events must make a qualifying speed of 200 miles per hour.

(e) The qualifying speed for the Thompson Trophy Race will be 225 miles per hour.

(f) The qualifying speed for the Cleveland Pneumatic Aerol Trophy Race will be 175 miles per hour.


B-Pilot Eligibility

(1) Pilots must be licensed by the Department of Commerce, and hold F.A.I Certification, and annual sporting license issued by the Contest Committee of the National Aeronautic Association, Dupont Circle, Washington, D. C.

(2) Members of the National Aeronautic Association receive sporting license without charge.

(3) Pilots not holding F.A.I Certification and annual sporting license must procure these from the National Aeronautic Association, Dupont Circle, Washington, D. C., before submitting their entry.

(4) A Sportsman pilot is one who does not compete for cash awards during the 1933 National Air Races.

(5) Pilots may fly alone, except in the Bendix Trophy Race they may fly alone or carry additional person or persons of either sex who are not pilots or navigators.

C-Entries and Entry Fees

(1) Entries must be made on official entry blanks, supplied by the Contest Committee of the National Air Races, Hotel Ambassador, Los Angeles, California. Close date for all events will be midnight, June 1, 1933. Postmark on envelope will be considered the official time of mailing.

(2) An entry fee of $25.00 is required. This will cover all events entered before the closing date.

(3) An entrant must be on the starting line, ready to start at the specified time. If he starts at the specified time in all the vents in which he is entered, his entry fee will be refunded in full.

(4) Pilots may enter additional events twenty-four hours before the race is scheduled to be run by paying an additional entry fee of $10.00 for each event, which will not be returned

(5) Pilots entering a race after the closing date must pay the original $25.00 entry fee deposit, and, in addition, $10.00 for each event they enter. The latter amount will not be returned, it being the penalty involved for late entry. the entry fee deposit of $25.00 in such cases will be refunded if the entrant is on the starting line and starts at the specified time in all events in which he is entered.

(6) If an entrant does not qualify for the event in which he is entered, as specified under Section A- "Plane Eligibility," as outlined above, his entry fee will be refunded.

(7) In all Closed Course Events where there are less than six entrants in a class on the starting line ready to start, the Air Race Context Committee reserves the right to cancel that race and no prize money will be awarded, and the entry fee for the event will be refunded. However, should the Contest Committee decide to run an event where there are less that six entrants on the line ready to start, the first three prizes only will be paid. The fourth and fifth prizes for the event will not be paid.

(8) A minimum of five entrants will be required for the Bendix Trophy Race and the first five to finish will be awarded the prize money as follows: 1st Place-45%; 2nd Place-25%; 3rd Place-15%; 4th Place-10%; 5th Place-5%.

(9) Entry money will be refunded to any entrant for any event where he or she is unable to compete in the event, by reason of damage to the airplane over which he or she has no control.

(10) An entry which contains a false statement shall be considered null and void and the entry fee will be forfeited.

(11) An entry fee will be required for entry in military events. However, it will be necessary for file entries prior to closing date, giving complete information regarding ships, etc.

(12) In case entrant will not personally pilot the airplane entered, name of pilot and his license numbers must be filled out in entry blank.
