Participants in the 1934 Air Classic and Their Ships

BEN O. HOWARD and his Menasco powered speed ship “Mike” which flown by Roy Minor achieved the phenomenal speed of 241 miles per hour and captured the 550 cu. in. Sweepstake Award at the 1933 National Air Races.

“MISS LOS ANGELES” specially built for ROY MINOR, a contender in the Thompson Trophy race, is powered with a Menasco “Buccaneer” C-6-S 300 H.P. motor.

GORDON ISRAEL and his own creation, the gull-winged “Israel Race” powered with a Menasco motor, in which he made his debut last year in national air racing.

LEE MILES, a newcomer in speed competition seen in the cockpit of his Miles and Atwood Menasco Racer, will give the old-timers plenty to worry about.

ART CHESTER, a veteran air race pilot, in his Menasco powered Chester Special which he flew for the first time at the 1933 National Air Races.

S. J. WITTMAN, veteran race pilot along side of his own creation “Chief Oshkosh” with Cirus motor, in which he will vie for honors in the various speed events.
