A--397 CUBIC INCH QUALIFYING RACES

(1) The airplane with the fastest speed in the Speed Trials will be assigned to Group I; the airplane with the second fastest speed in the Speed Trials will be assigned to Group II; the airplane with the third fastest speed in the Speed Trials will be assigned to Group I; etc.

(2) If there is not a minimum of 4 starters in each of the 397 Cu. In. Qualifying Races, one of the Races and the prize money posted, will be cancelled and all of the airplanes will start in one event.

(3) If, because of lack of entries, only one of the 397 Cu. In. Qualifying Races is run, the airplane making the fastest speed will compete in Group I of the Louis W. Greve Qualifying Races; the airplane with the second fastest speed will compete with Group II of the Louis W. Greve Qualifying Races; the airplane with the third fastest speed will compete with Group I of the Louis W. Greve Qualifying Races; etc.

(4) The ten airplanes with the fastest speed from the the two 397 Cu. In. Qualifying Races will start in the 397 CU. IN. FEATURE RACE.

B--LOUIS W. GREVE QUALIFYING RACES
(549 cu. in.)

(1) The airplane with the fastest speed in the Speed Trials will be assigned to Group I; The airplane with the second fastest speed in the Speed Trials will be assigned to Group II; the airplane with the third fastest speed in the Speed Trials will be assigned to Group I; etc.

(2) The ten airplanes with the fastest speed in the two Louis W. Greve Qualifying Races will start in the LOUIS W. GREVE TROPHY RACE

C--THOMPSON QUALIFYING RACES (Unlimited Cu. In. Group)

(1) The airplane with the fastest speed in the Speed Trials will be assigned to Group I; the airplane with the second fastest speed in the Speed Trials will be assigned to Group II; the airplane with the third fastest speed in the Speed Trials will be assigned to Group I; etc.

(2) The ten airplanes with the fastest speed in the two Thompson Qualifying Races will start in the THOMPSON TROPHY RACE.

7. An airplane which has had to withdraw from a race and does not finish after starting because of mechanical trouble may participate in the next race for which it is eligible providing there are less than 10 starters in the race. However, it must start in last position. The Contest Directors will decide whether the mechanical trouble was of a nature to cause withdrawal. 

EXAMPLE: If an airplane in one of the 397 Cu. In. Qualifying Races has to withdraw after starting, because of mechanical trouble, said airplane will be allowed to complete in the 397 CU. IN. FEATURE RACE if there are less than 10 starters. If there are 10 starters in the 397 CU. IN FEATURE RACE, it will be allowed to compete in one of the Louis W. Greve Qualifying Races, if there are less than 10 starters in either of the Louis W. Greve Qualifying Races. If there are less than 10 starters in both the Louis W. Greve Qualifying Races, the Contest Directors will decide which Group the airplane shall compete with, and in any case, it shall start in last position.

Charles E. Thompson Trophy Race

Men Pilots Only
TOTAL PURSE $25,000.00 AND CHARLES E. THOMPSON TROPHY
Sponsored by THOMPSON PRODUCTS, INC.

1. Thompson Products, Inc., are sponsoring the CHARLE E. THOMPSON RACE, an International Free-for-All, and will award the CHARLES E. THOMPSON TROPHY to the winner.

2. $20,000.00 of the above total purse will be awarded to the winners of the first five places on a division of prize money as shown below in paragraph No. 4.

$2,000.00 of the above total purse will be awarded to the winners of the first five places in each of the two THOMPSON QUALIFYING RACES (awards to be distributed as follows; First Place, 45%; Second Place, 25%; Third Place, 15%; Fourth Place, 10%; and Fifth Place, 5%).

$1,000.00 of the above total purse will be awarded to the winner, provided his speed exceeds the present National Air Race Record of 264.261 miles per hour.

3. The owner of the winning airplane, or an Aero Club he may designate, will be given possession of the CHARLES E. THOMPSON TROPHY for ten months from the date of the Race. The pilot of the winning airplane will be awarded, for permanent possession, a Gold Plaque; the pilot of the airplane winning second place will be awarded, for permanent possession, a Silver Plaque; and the pilot of the airplane winning third place will be awarded, for permanent possession, a Bronze Plaque.

4. Prize Money: First Place 45%; Second Place, 25%; Third Place, 15%; Fourth Place, 10%; and Fifth Place, 5%.
