Open to Motors of 549 Cubic Inch Displacement or Less

1. The Cleveland Pneumatic Tool Company is sponsoring the Louis W. Greve Race and will award the Louis W. Greve Trophy to the winner.

2. $10,000.00 of the above total purse will be awarded to the winners of the first five places on the division of prize money as shown below in paragraph No. 4. 

$2,000.00 of the above total purse will be awarded to the winners of the first five places in each of the two Louis W. Greve Qualifying Races (awards to be distributed as follows: First Place, 45%; Second Place, 25%; Third Place, 15%; Fourth Place, 10%; and Fifth Place, 5%. 

$1,000.00 of the above total purse will be awarded to the winner provided his speed exceeds the present National Air Race Record of 247.3 miles per hour. 

3. The owner of the winning airplane, or an Aero Club he may designate, will be given possession of the Louis W. Greve Trophy for ten months from the date of the Race. 

The pilot of the winning airplane will be awarded, for permanent possession, a Gold Plaque; the pilot of the airplane winning second place will be awarded, for permanent possession, a Silver Plaque; and the pilot of the airplane winning third place will be awarded, for permanent possession, a Bronze Plaque. 

4. Prize Money: First Place, 45%; Second Place, 25%; Third Place, 15%; Fourth Place, 10%; and Fifth Place, 5%.

Open to Motors of 397 Cubic Inch Displacement or Less

1. $6,000.00 of the above total purse will be awarded to the winners of the first five places on a division of prize money as shown below in paragraph No. 2. 

$1,500.00 of the above total purse will be awarded to the winners of the first five places in each of the two 397 Cubic Inch Qualifying Paces (awards to be distributed as follows: First Place, 45%; Second Place, 25%; Third Place, 15%; Fourth Place, 10%; and Fifth Place, 5%).

$1,000.00 of the above total purse will be awarded to the winner provided his speed exceeds the present National Air Race Record of 231.344 miles per hour. 

2. Prize Money: First Place, 45%; Second Place, 25%; Third Place, 15%; Fourth Place, 10%; and Fifth Place, 5%. 


Clifford W. Henderson Merit Award 

The Clifford W. Henderson Trophy is a merit award given to the pilot who is the most consistent winner and who earns the highest number of points in the competitive events at the National Air Races. 

Points are based on all around performance and the establishment of a new National Air Race or world speed record. 

The pilot winning this award is acknowledged as the champion race pilot of the current National Air Races. The Trophy is perpetual: A gold Plaque for permanent possession to the annual winner. 

First to win this trophy was Jimmy Doolittle; second, Roscoe Turner; third, the late Doug Davis; fourth, Harold Newman; fifth, Michel Detroyat. 

Points are awarded on the following basis:
Thompson Trophy Race..........1,000 points 
Vincent Bendix Trophy Race....1,000 points
Louis W. Greve Trophy Race......800 points 
397 Cubic Inch Feature Race.....700 points 
Women's A.T.C. Handicap Race....500 points 
Close Course Qualifying Races...200 points 

Points are allotted on the following basis: 1st place, 40%; 2nd place, 25%; 3rd place, 14%; 4th place, 9%; 5th place, 7%; 6th, 5%. 

A 25% increase in point awards will be given to each pilot establishing a new National Air Race or world's speed record in any particular event.
