are any storms in his path, whether heavy fog surrounds the field on which he plans to land or whether any other planes with which he might collide are close to him. In an emergency, the pilot can send our distress signals designed to bring help as quickly as possible. As in the case of the Radio Compass, dependability and rugged quality must be built into this equipment since the lives of pilot and passengers as well as the safety of the plane itself, depend upon the proper maintenance of communication at all times.

[]CRYSTAL FREQUENCY INDICATOR[]
Another important and widely used piece of equipment is the Crystal Frequency Indicator, commonly abbreviated "CFI." This equipment also used by both commercial airlines and the Armed Forces. The pilot and radio operator of a plane uses the "CFI" to check his radio compass or any other receiving or transmitting equipment that the plane may be carrying.
By using the "CFI" the pilot may adjust the transmitter in the plane to the exact wave length to the frequency at which the ground station is expecting to "tune-in" the plane. On the other hand, the pilot may adjust his receiver to the exact frequency on which the ground station is broadcasting messages to the plane. Without a"CFI" these adjustments

could not be made, and a pilot might readily lose contact with the ground station.

[]TA-2 TRANSMITTER[]
The Majority of planes require a radio transmitter which is capable of broadcasting only over relatively short distances and on a limited number of broadcasting frequencies. However, in the case of planes that fly long distances away from their own ground stations or into territories where the ground stations use different broadcasting frequencies, it is necessary to provide transmitters of higher power which are also capable of transmitting on a larger number of broadcasting frequencies. The TA-2 Aircraft Transmitting Equipment is manufactured to meet this type of need. For its size, this equipment is very powerful and very flexible in operation and tuning.

[]OTHER EQUIPMENT[]
The foregoing brief statements do not, of course, cover all of the various types of equipment which are made by Bendix Radio. Necessarily, a very large proportion of our equipment is affected by military restrictions and cannot be discussed or described at the present time. It can be mentioned, however, that amongst other items we have been able to do our share in the production of Radar, and are proud to have had the opportunity to participate in the development of this remarkable type of equipment.

[]RAILROAD RADIO[]
Another opportunity to pioneer in the application of radio to new fields has come with the increasing wartime need of railroads to improve their service. Our company has participated in a number of experiments throughout the country which
