Malcolm P. Ferguson, center, with Paul Mantz, left, and Col. Leon Gray, right. Mantz is the only man to capture the Bendix Race three times. He won in 1946, 1947 and 1948, each time flying a North American P51 Fighter. His best time was 460 miles per hour made in 1947. Col. Gray won the "Jet Division" of the Bendix Race in 1946 and 1947 in a Lockheed F-80 Jet Fighter. His best time was 507 miles per hour made in 1947.
