SOHIO TROPHY RACE Commemorating Cleveland's Sesquicentennial National Free-for-All - Men Pilots Only TOTAL PURSE $15,000.00 Open to Engines of Unlimited Cubic Inch Displacement Sponsored by The Standard Oil Company (of Ohio) W.T. HOLLIDAY President This race, jointly sponsored by The Standard Oil Company (of Ohio), under leadership of its president W. T. Holliday and the Cleveland Sesquicentennial Commission, will be open to pilots not qualifying for entry in the Thompson Trophy Race, and will be limited to twelve (12) starters. The total purse of $15,000.00 will be awarded to the winners of the first five places on the following basis: 1st Place - $8,000.00 2nd Place - 3,500.00 3rd Place - 2,000.00 4th Place - 1,000.00 5th Place - 500.00 The airplanes eligible for this event will be the second group of twelve (12) airplanes having made the fastest speeds in the qualifying speed trials for the Thompson Trophy Race. Qualifying speed trials will be held Monday, August 26, 1946, through Thursday, August 29, 1946, at the Cleveland Municipal Airport. Distance - 240 miles - 8 laps of the 30-mile rectangular course. Pilots must fly solo, wear "G" suits, crash helmets and parachutes. HALLE TROPHY RACE National Free-for-All - Women Pilots Only Open to Engines of Unlimited Cubic Inch Displacement TOTAL PURSE $5,000.00 and the Halle Trophy Sponsored by the Halle Bros. Company This race, sponsored by The Halle Bros. Company, under leadership of Walter M. Halle its president, is a women's free-for-all event designed to encourage women in air racing and to recognize their contribution to the greater advancement of aviation. The re-establishment this year of a women's closed course event is a fitting tribute to the courage and achievements of women in aviation. In addition to The Halle Bros. Trophy, $5,000 in cash will be awarded to the winners of the first five places on the following basis: 1st Place - $2,500.00 2nd Place - $1,000.00 4th Place - $500.00 3rd Place - 750.00 5th Place - 250.00 The race will be limited to eight (8) starters. The distance will be 75 miles, 5 laps of the 15 mile triangular course. An additional cash prize of $100.00 will be awarded by the Akron Women's Chapter, National Aeronautic Association, to the pilot making the fastest lap. Women pilots must have 500 or more flying hours and be properly qualified by the N.A.A. Contest Board. Starting field will be limited to the eight (8) fastest qualifiers.
