tanks, bolt down loose parts and do anything else necessary to get the plane away safely but in a hurry.

The flight is considered by the Air Force a "pilot proficiency" test. Each of the commands will have their own teams of two  pilots and ground crews working together. The pilots represent the Air Defense, Tactical Air, Air Research and Development, Air Proving Ground and Air Training Commands.

Detailed plans for the one-step refueling base operation provide that one man be assigned for every fuel tank on a plane. If, for instance, a jet team has four tanks attached to its planes then there will be four crewmen at its refueling base, the Air Force spokesman explained.

Ground crews will be assigned not only at the primary refueling base but at alternate ones established by each command in case of changes in the weather.
