PROCLAMATION
50TH ANNIVERSARY OF POWERED FLIGHT
1953

WHEREAS. two Ohioans, Orville and Wilbur Wright, on December 17, 1903, made the first flight in a power driven aircraft, and

WHEREAS, as the Wright Brothers planned and engineered the aircraft which they flew in 1903, at Dayton, Ohio, I am most happy to understand that the 1953 National Aircraft Show is being held in Dayton as a Sesquicentennial event in honor of the 50th anniversary of powered flight, and

WHEREAS, the contribution of Ohio to national aviation progress becomes a significant and integral part of Ohio's Sesquicentennial observance.

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Frank J. Lausche, Governor of Ohio, do hereby proclaim 1953 as the 50TH ANNIVERSARY OF POWERED FLIGHT in this state, and I appeal to our citizens to join in a national tribute to all pioneers of aviation, and to suitably and properly observe this noteworthy celebration of a historic milestone in man's march of progress and to recall what a debt of gratitude is owing to the Wright Brothers, who, fifty years ago, in Dayton, Ohio, made the necessary plans for the inaugural flight of a power driven aircraft.

IN TESTIMONY WHEREOF, I have hereunto subscribed my name and caused the Great Seal of the State of Ohio to be affixed, at Columbus, this 3rd day of February, in the Year of Our Lord, One Thousand Nine Hundred and Fifty-Three.
